National Police agents have arrested a 35-year-old woman in Orihuela as the alleged author of a crime of child abandonment, for allegedly abandoning her newborn daughter in a portal in that town of Alicante.

The events happened about ten days ago when a neighbor who returned from walking his dog located in the portal of his house a newborn wrapped in several layers of clothes inside a plastic bag , in apparent good health.

From that moment on, the investigation began by the specialist agents of the UFAM Group (Female Family Unit) of the Judicial Police Brigade of the Orihuela Police Station who conducted the first investigations in order to locate the mother of the child.

From the study of the security cameras in the area, an image of the person who could have abandoned the baby was obtained and the neighborhood in which it could reside could be delimited. From that hint, the agents toured the area during this week, - "almost domicile by address" , sources of the National Police point out - until they were able to locate and detain the alleged author of the abandonment.

The detainee who already had four daughters had concealed her pregnancy and gave birth in the bathroom of her home alone . Given its economic situation and ignoring the necessary procedures to deliver the baby for adoption, he allegedly decided to leave it on a portal for someone to find it. The minor was in perfect health.

The agents transferred the detainee to a medical center since she had not received assistance either before or after delivery , verifying that she was in good physical condition.

The detainee, accused of a crime of child abandonment , was placed at the disposal of the Orihuela Guard Instruction Court.
