Dubai Roads and Transport Authority has started implementing a flexible mobility plan that encourages the use of mass transportation by creating infrastructure in residential areas to ensure access to the sites of those means by all groups of society, including the elderly and people of determination, easily and safely, either by walking, or Using environmentally friendly means of transportation such as bicycles and electric latches (scooters), and the authority will work to provide the required elements to achieve this, such as setting up crossings, pedestrian breaks, shaded areas and paths, in addition to cultivating green areas, and creating adequate parking for vehicles Private rented facilities in the surrounding areas and public transport.

The authority announced that the implementation of the first phase had already started in 3 residential areas, including Karama, Mankhool, and Al Qusais, the first to be completed next March. During this stage, 314 high pedestrian crossing areas and 66 speed-control vehicles will be established, in addition to defining 33 km of common bicycle paths with pedestrians in some areas, and defining 52 km of road paths that include flexible means of transport that operate without an engine with vehicles Also, adding 2000 warning and warning boards, amending 77 thousand square meters of sidewalks, implementing 21 rest areas, seven areas and shaded paths.

The project includes the implementation of the concept of friendly safe streets, which is a new idea in Dubai, it was first applied experimentally in a small city in Germany, and many friendly street areas have proven Its effectiveness throughout Europe, in addition to creating safe areas for schools, applying solutions to calm traffic, providing safe crossings for pedestrians and bicycle drivers at intersections with the continuity of sidewalks, in addition to increasing the areas of areas planted for the purpose of cosmetic and shading, and the use of parasols and seats With the aim of achieving integration, streamlining and ease of movement in Dubai.

He pointed out that the authority will implement the project during the current year and next year in the first and second areas of Al Barsha, Al-Bateen, Al-Baraha, Al-Ras, the second Al-Qusais and the industrial Al-Qusais, and the number of areas in which flexible mobility is being implemented will increase to 27 regions by 2024.
