The Briton Elfyn Evans took over the lead of the Monte-Carlo rally from the French Sébastien Ogier, his teammate at Toyota, at the end of the 10th special, disputed on Saturday morning.

On a road mixing dry and icy parts, Evans was faster and Ogier is now 4.8 seconds behind him in the provisional general classification. The 3rd is the Belgian Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) at 16.6 seconds, in front of the other Hyundai driver, the French Sébastien Loeb, much further at almost two minutes.

"It was a good stage," said the Welshman. "I was able to be very consistent and maintain a lot of speed while not destroying the nails (on the tires editor's note) in the first part" of this special of more than 20 kilometers, he stressed.

Ogier, already sevenfold winner of the "Monte", was not too disappointed with his result. "I am happy to get away with it because the conditions were very difficult and the road was difficult to read."

Two other special stages must be contested on Saturday afternoon before the teams reach Monaco for the last day of the rally on Sunday, which will also include four special stages.
