He was on trial for hitting and strangling the woman he was dating, then for partially burning his body in the apartment he occupied in the Bellevue district of Nantes. Friday afternoon, a 39-year-old man was sentenced by the Loire-Atlantique assize court to 18 years' imprisonment, reports the Ouest-France newspaper. According to the newspaper Presse Océan , the victim and the accused had had an unstable relationship for several years. The events took place overnight in November 2017, after an argument broke out. The woman, then aged 50, tried to warn her son of the danger by SMS, to no avail. The man, a heavy cannabis user, was arrested the next day after the body of the victim was discovered by the firefighters.
