- It will not only be the coast, but also the inland will be more visible. But also that those living in the region with increased surveillance can learn more about issues that may affect them, says Jesper Enbom, associate professor of media and communication science at the University of Umeå.

National spread

He also believes that news from Norrbotten's and Västerbotten's inland can be spread nationally when there is a fixed surveillance of the areas.

- There is a tendency that there will only be focus on certain places in the country and this can give a broader picture.

Increased coverage

SVT's new broadcast permit, which is valid from this year, states that the monitoring of sparsely guarded areas should be strengthened. This is a good requirement for SVT, which is financed through fees that almost everyone is involved in and pays, Enbom says.

- It has been clear from the Media Investigation that there is a lack of surveillance, not least of northern Sweden's inland. I think it is natural that this requirement of public service has become stronger.
