Earlier, the Bulgarian prosecutor’s office said it suspected two Russian diplomats of espionage.

The department noted that the criminal case against two Russians was “suspended on the basis that they have immunity”.

Later, the Russian embassy stated that the diplomatic mission in Sofia was aware of a message published on the website of the prosecutor's office in Bulgaria.

In early December 2019, Russia declared a non-grata employee of the Bulgarian embassy in response to Sofia’s decision to expel a Russian diplomat.
