Since the beginning of October, demonstrations have been held in Iraq's cities, where mainly young people have demanded reforms within the political system which they consider to be deeply corrupt. Over 500 protesters are believed to have been killed in Iraq.

Thus, openly showing their displeasure is extremely risky, and Amnesty International has pointed out the Iran-backed Shi'ilis as responsible for the kidnappers.
