January 23, 2020 The creation of a voucher to encourage the spread of the fiber optic connection, in particular in the South, and a roadmap to start a new tender for the extension of the national network for ultra-broadband (Bul).

These are the themes at the center of the meeting of the Committee for the diffusion of ultra-broadband, at Palazzo Chigi, convened by the Minister for technological innovation and digitization Paola Pisano. The minister, since his inauguration, wanted to make the committee's work more frequent, giving monthly meetings and strengthening the technical secretariat to speed up the construction of the network infrastructure, financed by European funds.

The minister said she was "satisfied because we are proceeding quickly, we have dealt with all the items on the agenda. The committee's work has started again and there is a positive atmosphere of collaboration. We are investigating through the data analysis the problems that they have slowed down jobs in the past, so they can move faster in the future. "

As for the gray areas (those in which operators have so far intervened with their infrastructure programs), the goal is to launch the tender by the end of the summer, to allow to bring cutting-edge connectivity also in these areas in the shortest possible time.

The other aspect decided at the meeting concerns the 'voucher plan': an action to stimulate the demand for optical fiber in inhabited centers that enjoy less connectivity, through a 'treasury' of 1.3 billion to be distributed in vouchers. The contribution will go to public schools, employment centers and the remaining resources, small and medium-sized enterprises and citizens.
