This curved stone strip was installed in 1981 on a green hill, at the edge of the Roglit forest, 30 kilometers west of Jerusalem, on the initiative of Serge and Beate Klarsfeld, presidents of the association Sons and daughters of Jewish deportees from France. The couple were alongside the Head of State, as well as several ministers, the LREM deputy (majority) Aurore Bergé or the director Elie Chouraqui.

"We are grateful to you for your intense commitment to anti-Semitism," said Serge Klarsfeld thanking him for his visit. "We will always be by your side to protect the republican state which protects us all," he said. Serge Klarsfeld also said that Emmanuel Macron would go on Monday to the Holocaust memorial in Paris, inaugurated in 2005 by former President Jacques Chirac.

A young musician played the "Song of the Deportees" with a violin that belonged to a luthier in the Warsaw ghetto. Another young girl read the last heartbreaking letter from a teenage girl deported to her foster family. "I have to have courage, I hope to see you again soon." As long as I come back, ”wrote little Colette, who never came back. "PS. We are told that we have to leave for Drancy on a train. I'll write to you from Drancy if I can. My supplies are running out and I am already hungry. ”

Of the approximately 80,000 Jewish deportees from France, symbolized by 80,000 trees planted at the Roglit memorial, 43,441 were gassed upon their arrival. Emmanuel Macron will then address the French community in Israel, before going to the ceremonies marking the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi camp at Auschwitz which brings together some forty foreign leaders in Jerusalem.
