An additional eight million euros will be devoted to theaters in the regions, "because this formidable network must be reinforced", announced Thursday the Minister of Culture Franck Riester.

These credits "have already been voted by the parliament, within the framework of the 2020 finance law. This is not a promise. It is a commitment which is in line with the 2020 budget", continued Mr. Riester.

This global sum is divided into several envelopes. First, there is € 4 million to strengthen, in particular, "support for approved scenes of national interest located in cities of less than 100,000 inhabitants".

Then, "an additional 1 million euros will go to the creation of approved scenes + art, childhood and youth +". The Ministry of Culture aims for 2022 with the objective of having "at least one scene of this type per region and per territory of Overseas".

Finally, an additional 3 million euros will be dedicated, in particular, to "increased support for the resumption of shows". "Today, too many shows have an insufficient lifespan," lamented Mr. Riester, who wants, among other things, to allow "eligibility for this aid from companies whose shows were created in a public theater and then resumed in a private theater ".
