Sharjah Municipality revealed the completion of the trial period for smart cars equipped with equipment and technologies for stressing public parking spaces in Sharjah in a digital way in an exceptional step to help inspection team employees, who number 180 employees in monitoring parking violations, pointing to the launch of three cars for digital scanning, It is the first of its kind in the region soon.

In detail, the Director of the Public Parking Department, Ali Ahmed Abu Ghazain, assured «Emirates Today» that the municipality has finished entering all codes for vehicle numbers in the country into three smart cars that will be used at the beginning of the second quarter of this year to monitor the violations of the emirate’s parking.

He continued that the smart cars are currently operating in the field and monitoring the violations in an experimental manner without registering the violations on their owners, to ensure the validity of the entry of the plate codes, indicating that the actual launch of the three vehicles will be in the beginning of the second quarter, and will monitor all the violations, edit the violations and enter them into the system digitally.

Abu Ghazain explained that the municipality considered that the trial period should be a long time to reduce the percentage of errors in monitoring violations and violations that may happen in the future, noting that every smart car can monitor about 3000 vehicles per hour, and to verify whether the payment process was completed or not.

He stressed that the new car will help the public parking department and the inspectors to save a lot of time and effort for inspection teams to solve the parking problems, pointing out that the number of parking spaces in the emirate is 40 thousand parking places, which requires new techniques to monitor abuses and organize parking mechanisms in them.

He explained that the smart car will wipe out a large number of vehicles in a short time, pointing out that the weather in the UAE, especially in the summer, is hot, which made the administration work on creating and adding this car to reduce inspectors exposure to sunlight significantly.

He stated that the smart car is equipped with a number of cameras and sensors to monitor the alignment violations, while providing data and statistics on the percentage and timing of the lineup operations, with the rates of use of different payment methods.
