Three weeks after the December 29 poll in Guinea-Bissau, the new president Umaro Sissoco Embalo is still awaiting a judgment from the Supreme Court, which must validate his mandate, challenged by the ousted candidate Domingos Simoes Pereira .

"Since 1998, each time that the president and the Prime minister and the president of the National assembly were resulting from PAIGC, there has been an institutional blocking", declared Umaro Sissoco Embalo, Tuesday 21 January, to France 24. "But today, this is not the case. This disorder ended in Guinea Bissau today because I embody a new generation, a new hope", he adds.

Winner at 53.55% of the vote

The Supreme Court of Guinea-Bissau announced on Tuesday that it would await a verification of the minutes, but has ruled out a new count of votes in the second round. The results published by the electoral commission give Umaro Sissoco Embalo the winner with 53.55% of the votes.

These results, Domingos Simoes Pereira contests them and the Supreme Court, which he has seized, has given in recent days two judgments maintaining the status quo. The electoral commission considers the results it announced "final".
