Divers in the Tarn river after the collapse of a bridge, in Mirepoix-sur-Tarn. - Béatrice Colin / 20 Minutes

It still lies at the bottom of the Tarn. Two months after the Mirepoix-sur-Tarn accident in Haute-Garonne, the overloaded truck that caused the suspension bridge to collapse has still not been removed from the river. We will have to wait until it is extracted, like the 600 tonnes of rubble from the bridge, before we can start building work on new infrastructure.

Tuesday, on the sidelines of his wishes, Georges Méric, the president of the department of Haute-Garonne, manager of this axis, confirmed that it would be rebuilt. "We hope to be able to do it in four years if we can," he said.

Work cannot be done before summer

Before starting this project at more than 20 million euros, it will be necessary to wait to be able to access the banks. The extraction of the remains of the bridge itself can only be done during the summer, during the low water level in the Tarn.

Unlike the one that collapsed, the future bridge will not be suspended, but will have a central pier. Until then, the inhabitants will have to continue to take their troubles patiently and take the deviations put in place to join the other bank.
