The department noted that "against the background of the publication in Russia of new documents on the history of the Second World War, conflicting statements were made from Warsaw."

“From the hysterical denial of the indisputable facts to the allegations that the Russian side is showing that they are ready to resume the work of the bilateral Group on complex issues arising from the history of Russian-Polish relations and the activities of the Commission of Historians,” the Foreign Ministry said.

The Foreign Ministry reminded that “we have always advocated honest and documented discussions of the plots of our history”.

It is also emphasized that “Russia was not the initiator of the termination of the bilateral dialogue and the freezing of numerous mechanisms of Russian-Polish cooperation, including on historical topics.”

As stated in the Foreign Ministry, "steps to rectify the situation should come from Warsaw, with the understanding of the need for a depoliticized, truth-based and reliable evidence-based approach to history and building a dialogue looking to the future."

Earlier, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, commenting on an article by Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Moravecki in a Politico publication on World War II, noted that, dedicating her to the Holocaust, the Polish Prime Minister “makes her main point a few false theses.”

“One of them, the central one, is dedicated to“ 45 years of the Soviet occupation, which cost millions of lives. ” Lies and manipulation have become loyal co-authors of Polish politicians discussing the themes of the Second World War, ”she emphasized.

Zakharova also noted that the “terrible lie of Moravecki” lies in the assertion that the Red Army, in principle, “did not liberate” Warsaw.

Russian leader Vladimir Putin emphasized that the Russian side will not allow anyone to erase the memory of the Great Patriotic War. The president promised that Russia will open a center for archival documents related to the Second World War in order to shut up the “bad mouth” for those who are trying to rewrite history.
