Today, the Board of Education clubbed through the decision to terminate five of seven school librarians and increase the number of students per preschool educator.

The Alliance's proposal to dismiss five of the seven school librarians has been met with strong criticism by the Social Democrats, who believe it will affect students' opportunities to achieve their goals.

"Disaster for our students"

"This is a disaster for our school librarians and for our students," says Stefan Jönsson (S) of the Education Board's second vice chairman. They have an actual educational assignment and are integrated into the school activities. In Diö, the lending effect is 48 books per pupil per year and in Ryfors it is at seven, so the difference is noticed if there is a school librarian present or not.

Necessary decision, according to the alliance

The alliance that presented the proposal believes that the decision is necessary to achieve the savings requirements.

- The decision is made here today, but it will be negotiated and reviewed. We are going to get as good a solution as possible and try to collaborate with the public libraries and get an organization that can work well together, says Gusten Mårtensson (C) of the education board's chair.
