In Burkina Faso, 36 civilians were killed Monday, January 20 in the province of Sanmatenga in the north-central region. An armed terrorist group, according to the government, broke into the villages of Nagraogo and Alamou and killed 32 and 4 people respectively. Forty-eight hour national mourning was declared by the government as of Wednesday, January 22.

Monday is market day in Nagraogo, a village located in the rural commune of Barsalagho in the province of Sanmatenga. While the market is in turmoil, an armed terrorist group burst into it. These armed men are shooting people. 32 people are killed according to the government. The attackers burn the market before leaving the scene.

In their retreat they shoot four other people in the village of Alamou, still in the same province, three villagers are also injured according to the official report.

The attackers also torched around 30 motorcycles belonging to the inhabitants of the attacked localities. According to our information, people are leaving these villages to take refuge in Kaya, a hundred kilometers northeast of the capital.

While condemning this attack, the Burkinabè government declared a national mourning of forty-eight hours over the entire territory. Popular celebrations, demonstrations of a recreational nature are prohibited. Flags are flown at half-mast on all public buildings and in representations of Burkina Faso abroad.
