The police's democracy and hate crime group in the South region, among other things, deals with crimes against politicians such as threats or harassment. But few reports end up with the special group - because politicians are bad at making police reports.

- We have not received so many notifications. We were and met politicians from different parts of southern Sweden to show that we exist but they are bad at reporting, Zandra Brodd, group leader of the democracy and hate crime group.

"Accustomed to harassment"

The Crime Prevention Council's latest security survey showed that only 19 percent of incidents in 2018 were reported to the police.

- They are used to endure harassment and we see that it is only when it comes to family and the children that they report, says Zandra Brodd.

New teams need to be tested

Since the turn of the year, there has been a change in the law that applies to crimes against politicians and there is the possibility to sharpen the punishment if the act was committed because a person has been elected.

- I think it is very important and it comes at the right time. Now it has to start being used and get practice in court for us to know what it means, says Zandra Brodd.

What do you think the law change will mean?

- We will notice that when we test this legislation, but there must be practice on it. I think we can only see in a year if it has had the purpose we have wanted. But the idea is very good and I hope you can use it, she says.
