Abu Dhabi Police confirmed that automatic tuning of a violation of not leaving a sufficient safety distance between vehicles is not activated on the roads while waiting for vehicles at intersections and traffic lights, and during times of congestion on the roads, noting that the failure of drivers to leave a safety distance in such cases may expose them to a civil violation Through traffic patrols if they are caught.

This came in response to inquiries received by «Emirates Today» from drivers about the automatic adjustment mechanism for drivers who are not committed to leaving sufficient distance between vehicles on the roads in times of peak traffic and traffic, as well as when they stop at traffic lights.

Abu Dhabi Police confirmed to "Emirates Today" that the automatic adjustment feature is suspended to monitor the violation of the "safety distance" in times of congestion, while being activated in normal conditions, where the radars are programmed to take into account the speed of the vehicle during traffic density.

She stressed that automatic tuning for violation of not leaving a distance between vehicles targets the aggressive group of drivers, who paste their vehicles in the front vehicles, which threatens the lives of road users, and their actions cause serious accidents resulting in injuries and deaths.

It is noteworthy that the Abu Dhabi Police began on January 15 this year to control non-compliant violators by leaving a sufficient safety distance between vehicles through the smart system and "fixed radar" devices, and to impose a fine of 400 dirhams and four traffic points for violators.

Abu Dhabi Police relied, in calculating sufficient safety distance, on traffic safety rules and global traffic control procedures, prescribed by the rule of "two seconds" in determining them, which depends on there being a time interval of two seconds between the two vehicles, noting that the Municipal Department undertakes drawing clear white points on the road Show what is sufficient safety distance.

Negative behaviors

Abu Dhabi Police called on drivers to leave sufficient safety distance behind the front vehicles to protect themselves and other road users from accidents, and the resulting human and material losses, stressing the importance of leaving that distance, which is a traffic safety measure that enables them to control their vehicles and stop them in a timely manner If the front vehicle stops suddenly.
