The Paraguayan government said that at least 75 prisoners - including members of the most dangerous Brazilian gang - escaped from a prison in the country on Sunday after digging a tunnel in a process the government believes prison officials were aware of.

Justice Minister Cecilia Pires told reporters that Juan Caballero, director of the Pedro prison prison near the border with Brazil, and six other officials had been removed from their duties.

Among those fleeing were individuals in the First Capital Command gang, the most dangerous and influential organized crime gang in Brazil.
