Unemployment in the country is rising and growth in the Swedish economy is about to slow down. Similar signs are to some extent seen in Västerbotten, but more people have jobs than the national average and the companies intend to continue to hire. This is shown by the Swedish Employment Service's latest forecast for the labor market in Västerbotten.

"Order intake seems to be decreasing a bit, but at the same time companies appear to have a recruitment need," says Mona Burlin, who is the Employment Service's corporate adviser in northern Västerbotten.

Lowest unemployment rate in the country

Unemployment in Västerbotten is the lowest in the whole country, just over five per cent.

The Employment Service has asked 499 private employers in Västerbotten County about how they view their development in the near future.

The survey shows that the companies in the county to a greater extent than the national government believe that there is a shortage of labor. 125,000 people between the ages of 16-64 have employment. It does not appear to decrease according to the forecast.

- If you are Swedish-born with upper secondary education then you already have a job, says Mona Burlin.

"It looks hopeful"

One of the few industries that do not experience any major shortage of people is the trade.

The construction industry is beginning to slow down to a certain extent in Umeå. At the same time it is being built like never before in Skellefteå where Northvolt will be ready with a huge battery factory in a couple of years.

- We think there should be no real recession up here, it looks hopeful, says Mona Burlin.
