Mayor LR of Marseille Jean-Claude Gaudin on Monday urged his camp to unite in the face of the threat of the far right in the city of Marseille, where the right leaves divided for the municipal.

"I would like us to arrive at a candidacy unit because it is too serious," added Mr. Gaudin, referring to the threat of a victory for the National Rally. "This risk is huge," said the former senator who, at 80 years old including 25 at the head of the second city of France, will not run again in March.

"I can not stay away, I try daily to make a connection" between Martine Vassal (invested by Les Républicains) and Bruno Gilles, former LR senator and dissident candidate, assured the mayor of Marseille.

Mr. Gaudin reaffirmed his wish to see Bruno Gilles "lead a LR list and from the center to the senate in September": "He told me that he was no longer interested, my arms are falling to me". "I believe that Ms. Vassal made other proposals to Mr. Gilles," he added. The president of the Aix-Marseille Provence metropolitan area and of the Bouches-du-Rhône department was dubbed by the mayor when she declared her candidacy in September.

In addition to Mrs. Vassal and Mr. Gilles, among the candidates for mayor include Senator RN Stéphane Ravier, Sébastien Barles for EELV, the elected ecologist Michèle Rubirola at the head of a union of the left, the former president of the University of Aix-Marseille Yvon Berland, supported by LREM, or the former PS senator Samia Ghali.
