Quickly mocked by many of its competitors, the announcement of Christian Estrosi, Sunday during his very first meeting , had the effect of a small bomb in the premises of the campaign for municipal elections in Nice. If he is re-elected for a third mandate, the outgoing mayor has promised to shave the Acropolis Palace, from where he was speaking, and the National Theater of Nice (TNN) to be able to continue its green flow.
"In agreement with its director and the Minister of Culture, the TNN, which requires enormous and costly upgrading work, will be relocated [in the old church of the] Franciscans, place Saint-François" and "Acropolis, demolished, will be replaced by a modern exhibition center closer to the airport, ”detailed Christian Estrosi.

While the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (Mamac) would be kept in situ , the theater would therefore be transferred to the old religious building at Place Saint-François, a few steps away. Renovated by the city since 2018, the place was planned, at the time, to accommodate a cultural space dedicated to the history of Nice. And according to Christian Estrosi's project, the 21,000 m2 of the convention center would simply be razed.

The project should therefore make it possible to continue the Promenade du Paillon. The green space, inaugurated in late 2013 on 1.2 km long, had already required the destruction of the old Nice bus station and its hanging gardens. The cost of the site was around 40 million euros.
