January 19, 2020 For the second consecutive day, new protests in central Beirut against the political class that is unable to give itself a new government and does not relieve the country of the economic crisis. Hundreds of anti-government protesters gathered in the center of the Lebanese capital, the day after violent clashes between demonstrators and security forces that injured more than 400 people.

And the tension has grown among protesters outside Parliament: many have started throwing stones and burning objects and the police have reacted using hydrants and tear gas. Meanwhile, in the vicinity of the Parliament and at the entrances of the city and in its southern suburbs there is a heavy deployment of the Lebanese army.

Unprecedented protests have been shaking Lebanon since October 17, with Lebanese from all political and religious backgrounds demanding the total expulsion of the political class, whom they consider inept and corrupt.
