Police and protesters rallied as thousands of people gathered on Sunday in central Hong Kong to demonstrate and demand democratic reforms and protest against the Chinese Communist Party.

The manifestation had been authorized by the police and held in the Chater Garden, writes the South China Morning Post. But despite this, conflict between police and protesters arose.

The police have fired tear gas at the protesters and several people have been injured, including police.

Protests since April 2019

The protests in Hong Kong have been going on since April. But despite some concessions from the Chinese provincial government, residents continue to demonstrate on the streets. Demonstrators' demands are democracy reforms and a diminished influence from China in Hong Kong.

Sunday's event is the latest violence.
