Moroccan police have aborted the massive jump of some 400 migrants of sub-Saharan origin to the city of Ceuta, according to local authorities in a statement transmitted by the MAP agency.

The aborted assault occurred in the western part of the fence , which separates Ceuta from the Moroccan city of Beliunech.

The incident has left 24 injured among migrants and law enforcement, who were transferred to the nearest hospitals on the Moroccan side, those of Castillejos and Mdiq (Rincon), while numerous arrests occurred to try to clarify what happened.

The note implies that no emigrant managed to pass to Ceuta .

The assault this Sunday is the first recorded this year, and occurs after Spain removed the concertinas at the border fence , although in parallel Morocco has reinforced its own fences with other concertinas.

In line with the decrease in the arrival of irregular migrants to Spain in 2019 (with a decrease of 59% compared to 2018), irregular arrivals to Ceuta by land also decreased by 31.2% last year (they were a total of 1,361), according to figures from the Spanish Ministry of Interior.

Morocco's work in immigration control is constantly praised by Spanish officials, who have also become the best supporters of Morocco before the European Union to strengthen its borders.
