Activists of the "ecological-social" movement Extinction Rebellion (XR) disrupted this Saturday, January 18, the Brussels auto show. Faced with " the inaction of politicians who see the future only on the horizon of the next elections ", the activists decided to multiply actions on a small scale, but intended to strike the imagination. For them, the whole model of mobility based on the private car must be abandoned.

" This is the living room of lies " proclaim the activists of Extinction Rebellion in the aisles of the auto show. Car manufacturers have lied in the past for example with dieselgate and they continue to lie according to the 250 activists dispersed this Saturday, January 18 in the corridors and stands of the Heysel exhibition center.

" The car kills, the oil companies kill " proclaim the leaflets distributed to the many visitors. According to them, the biggest lie is to continue to sell: they believe that the private car has no future.

" The electric car is actually a lie, because it has zero emissions," says Sébastien Hendrickx. We have to build the car, the energy comes from somewhere. It is rather greenwashing or eco-laundering. The reason is that the auto industry wants to sell a lot of cars. "

Activists of Extinction Rebellion this Saturday made graffiti with fake blood on cars, they chained themselves to electric cars. They also organized "die-ins", movements in which all the members of a group killed.

This did not last long, because they had warned the organizers and the police were waiting for them firmly. 170 activists have been arrested, but they believe they have more impact through their actions than protests by tens of thousands of people.
