January 18, 2020 The high pressure that for more than a month has been the undisputed protagonist of the meteorological scene on Italy leaves our country for a few days. An Atlantic disturbance is bringing rain and snow back to many Italian regions. Rain gradually spread from Liguria to Piedmont and Lombardy. Bad weather also on Tuscany, Umbria and Lazio.

Landslide in Bogliasco, flooding in A12
The storm that struck in the province of Genoa last night and during the night created numerous inconveniences. In via San Bernardo, the road from Bogliasco to the Sampdoria training grounds, a boulder has fallen, blocking the way. On site, firefighters and technicians intervened with bulldozers to remove the landslide. During the night, however, two families were evacuated to Avegno, as a precaution, after raising the guard level of the Recco torrent. People were brought back to their apartments after a few hours. In A12, on the other hand, there are floods between Recco and Genova Nervi.

The forecast for tomorrow
On Sunday 19 there will be a storm of colder winds from the north-eastern quadrants. The weather will improve in the North, on the Tyrrhenian regions and in the South while it will remain more unstable on the central-southern Adriatic regions where occasional snowfalls will be able to whiten the Apennines above 7-900 meters. Meteorologists also explain that next week the high pressure will begin to increase in the North, while in the Center-South there will be a phase of bad weather that will hit Sardinia hard. However, the rains will also affect the Ionian sectors and initially still the central Adriatic slopes.

What awaits us earlier in the week
Here are the Air Force forecasts for the next few days in Italy. Monday, January 20 in the North: compact densities on the western Piedmont and Alpine foothills and on the lower Romagna with weak associated precipitations, snow at low hill altitudes; many clouds over the other Apennine areas and thick fog over the rest of the north, the latter thinning out in the afternoon with large clear spaces expected over the related Alpine, pre-Alpine and foothill areas. In the early morning formation of dense mists and local fog banks on the flat areas.

Central and Sardinia: on Sardinia moderate bad weather with widespread showers and thunderstorms, locally also intense on the eastern sector of the island; substantial clouds over the Adriatic regions with weak phenomena, snowy on the related Apennine areas above 500-600 meters, absorbed by the afternoon; thick and extensive glazes elsewhere with further compact cloud cover expected on the Tuscan Apennines.

South and Sicily: wide medium-high and stratiform coverage along the Campania coastal areas, but without associated phenomena; cloudy sky elsewhere with weak rainfall associated with Adriatic regions and Basilicata, more frequent with Ionian Calabria and central-eastern Sicily; an improvement on Molise and Puglia is expected from the evening with lightenings on the central-southern sector of the latter region.

Temperatures: minimum decreases in Liguria, Alpine areas of Valle d'Aosta, northern Piedmont and Lombardy, Triveneto, Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany, Marche, Umbria, Abruzzo and central-northern Calabrian reliefs; on the rise over south central Lazio, Salento Puglia, Ionian Basilicata and the main islands; without significant changes elsewhere; rising peaks in the western Alps and Piedmont plain; down on the rest of the north, Tuscany, upper Lazio, northern Puglia and on the southern Apennine mountains; stationary over the rest of the country.

Winds: strong with gusts of strong gale northern over Liguria and eastern over Sardinia; moderate to strong from the eastern quadrants of Tuscany, Campania, Calabria and Sicily; weak variables in the Alpine areas and generally weak or locally moderate around the north-east over the rest of the country.

Seas: from rough to very rough locally off the Ligurian Sea and the Sardinian Sea; from very moved to agitated the basins around Sardinia, with swell in intensification until very agitated by the evening on the Sardinian channel; the northern Tyrrhenian Sea is very rough; from moved to much moved the remaining seas.
