The damage is significant. An intrusion alert went off on Saturday 18 January around 5 a.m. in the La Rotonde brasserie, located in the Montparnasse district of Paris. A fire has also been reported in this restaurant where Emmanuel Macron celebrated his qualification for the second round of the presidential election in 2017. The Paris prosecutor's office has opened an investigation to determine the causes of the fire.

About "10 m2 were burned" and the fire was put out "by means of a lance," said a spokesman for the Paris fire brigade.

The intruders "broke a window of the terrace on the ground floor" and then set fire to, told AFP Serge Tafanel, co-manager of the brewery.

"The damage is considerable. We will not be able to open for several days or even weeks," he said, adding that a previous fire attempt had failed on January 9 outside the establishment.
