A French-French final in Auckland? Ugo Humbert won the first semi-final of the New Zealand tournament against John Isner on Friday, perhaps waiting to find Benoît Paire.
Against the American 20th in the world, the 21-year-old Frenchman never got into trouble, offering no break point to the 34-year-old veteran to win 7-6 (7/5), 6-4.
Humbert, 57th in the world, was particularly intractable by not conceding any points on his first service.
He will face in the final the winner of the confrontation between Benoît Paire and the Pole Hubert Hurkacz.
