Yesterday, Ukrainian Prime Minister Olexi Houncharok submitted his resignation after a leaked audio recording attributed to him indicated that he criticized President Volodymyr Zelinsky's understanding of the economy.

"In order to remove all doubts about our respect and our confidence towards the President, I wrote a letter of resignation and handed it over to the President," Hooncharock wrote on his Facebook page.

Commenting on the recording, Huncharok wrote that "its content artificially created the idea that I and my team do not respect the president."

"This is not true," he said, adding, "I got to this position to implement the president's program."

The comments, released this week, were recorded during an informal meeting in December between ministers and senior officials of the National Bank.

According to the reports, Honsharuk (35) was heard saying that it should be explained in a simple way, given that his understanding of the economy is "primitive".

He also described himself as "ignorant" of the economy.

Honsharuk became the youngest Prime Minister in the history of Ukraine.

For his part, Ukrainian President Zielinski urged the security services yesterday to know who is responsible for recording a meeting that took place in the Prime Minister's office without his knowledge and to determine the parties that attended the meeting. Zelinsky's office said in a statement that the president also indicated the need for measures to improve ways to protect information.
