More people want to be buried without a priest - a new neutral church hall is opened in Svedvi

Bare walls without crosses and religious symbols enclose the bright hall which stands at Svedvi Cemetery. - We are receiving more reports on civil burials and cannot continue to use the parish home as neutral premises. When we were still going to expand the coffin storage, we took the opportunity to build it here, says Stefan Sjölund, who is the cemetery manager for the cemetery management in Hallstahammar and Kolbäck.

According to statistics from the Swedish Funeral Home Association, there has been an increase in the number of civil burials in Västmanland. In 2009, about 8 percent of all burials were civil, in 2018 the figure had risen to 13 percent.
