Americans spent less on video games in 2019 than the previous year, pending the launch of streaming services by industry giants, we learned in a report on Thursday.

"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare", released in October, was the best-selling game of the year. This is the 11th consecutive year that "Call of Duty" has been the best-selling video game franchise, according to the American market research company NPD.

U.S. spending on video game hardware and software reached $ 14.6 billion in 2019, a 13% drop from the previous year, details NPD in a study.

Console competitors Sony and Microsoft plan to release next-generation hardware this year, giving players reasons to wait for the latest deals before deciding how to spend their money.

And Google launched its Stadia cloud video game platform at the end of November, which promises its subscribers the possibility of playing from any screen, without a console or high-performance computer, a market that has been very little occupied until now.

The number of people playing games on their smartphones in the United States and Canada increased by about 2% to reach 214 million last year.

"The mobile games market continues to be dynamic and expanding, offering attractive content to all types of players," said Mat Piscatella of NPD.
