The Austrian Matthias Mayer, leading at the end of the descent, pushed back all the slalomers to win the Wengen World Cup combined Friday ahead of the two tri-colors Alexis Pinturault and Victor-Muffat Jeandet.

The 29-year-old Austrian, downhill and super-G Olympic champion, signs his 7th World Cup victory, his first in combined.

Despite the best time in slalom, Pinturault could not catch up on the descent (1 sec 68/100), coming to fail only 7/100 of the victory.

The Courchevel skier, winner of the Bormio combined at the end of December, however takes the lead in the general classification of the World Cup at the expense of the Norwegian Henrik Kristoffersen who did not participate in the combined.

Pinturault will find his big rival Sunday in the slalom.

After his beautiful 3rd place last weekend in the giant slalom of Adelboden, Victor Muffat-Jeandet finished in 3rd place, 67/100 from Mayer.

The specialty Olympic bronze medalist thus signs a 4th podium in Wengen in combined, after two 2nd place in 2015 and 2019 and his victory in 2018.

Tenth after the descent, Maxence Muzaton retired in the slalom. Nils Allègre took 16th place.
