A school in Pathum Thani, Thailand, was forced to stop using the Audiometric application to measure students ’voice while singing the national anthem, after the move sparked angry reactions on the Internet.

It is clear that singing the national anthem as loud as possible in front of the Flagstaff, every morning, is very important in Thai schools, so one of the educational institutions adopted a strange idea to monitor the intensity of students ’voices using a smartphone application. If students are singing more than 85 decibels (A unit of volume), they will be allowed to head to their classes. And if their lyric ranges between 80 and 84 decibels only, they will have to sing the hymn once or twice as punishment. If the sound drops below 80 decibels, they will have to sing the hymn three times. The measure was supposed to instill discipline in students, but it sparked anger among parents and pioneers of online networks.

The school only used the decibel scale twice, on January 6th and 7th, before news of the controversial measure began to circulate on the Internet, for negative reactions to begin to appear, and announced that it would stop it.

A local news channel reported that school officials used a smartphone application called "DisplayX" to measure the loudness of students in the morning, even though the educational institution is frequented by 4,300 students. According to the CDC in the United States, any sound exceeding 85 decibels is considered Harmful to human hearing. A medium vacuum cleaner makes a noise of up to 75 decibels.
