June 26, 2019The Venezuelan government claims to have thwarted an attempted military coup, which also involved the assassination of President Nicolas Maduro.

This was announced by the Minister of Communication, Jorge Rodriguez. "We attended all the coup planning meetings," said the minister, referring to agents infiltrated in the operation. The coup, which would have relied on military personnel and retired, should have taken place between Sunday and Monday.

"Chile, Colombia and the United States," added Rodriguez, "have hatched the plot": "We were in all their meetings where the coup was planned," said the minister, pointing to retired but also in-office officers protagonists of the attempted coup. Maduro's place would have been taken, he explained, by a general. Several perpetrators were reportedly executed between Sunday and Monday.
