Ségolène Royal, April 12, 2017 in Paris. - GABRIEL BOUYS / AFP

The National Financial Prosecutor's Office has opened a preliminary investigation against Ségolène Royal. This procedure, which follows the investigation published by Franceinfo last November, aims to verify the use that the former minister made of the means made available to her as ambassador of the poles.

The former socialist candidate in the 2007 presidential election, who has held this volunteer position since 2017, was accused of having used the envelope made available to her for her ambassadorial expenses, in particular for promoting one of his books.

The pole ambassador's function is voluntary, but the Quai d'Orsay and the Ministry of the Ecological Transition finance the salaries of the three collaborators who work alongside him, as well as an envelope of 100,000 euros in mission and representation costs. .
