“A boy born to a surrogate mother in December 2019 was supervised by a nanny in an apartment where three more babies born in a similar way also lived ... their biological parents - citizens of foreign countries were involved in processing all the documents necessary for children, including for their further export abroad, ”the ministry’s press service said in a statement.

According to the preliminary conclusion of the expert, the baby died as a result of the sudden death syndrome of a newborn.

Upon the fact of the incident, a case was instituted for causing death through negligence and human trafficking.

The other three two- and three-month-old infants were removed from the family and sent to the children's city hospital.

“In the framework of the criminal case, a legal assessment will be given of the legality of the activities of a law firm that conducted surrogacy programs, as well as transactions in relation to newborns, including for their subsequent export abroad,” the UK emphasized.

In addition, the investigators began checking the bodies of internal affairs and guardianship, which did not reveal “the fact of the fact that the newborns lived in the apartment without unaccompanied parents and legal guardians who do not have documents confirming their birth”.

In March, the State Duma introduced a bill on the registration of children born using assisted reproductive technologies.

In 2017, Russia recorded an increase in the number of children born to surrogate mothers.
