The New York Times has passed the 5 million subscriber mark, largely due to a further acceleration of its digital subscriber portfolio, the daily said on Tuesday.

During the year 2019, the group gained, in net, more than a million subscribers to the only online content, a record for the New York Times which launched its paid digital offer in 2011.

The newspaper now has 3.4 million subscribers to online content alone, nearly 900,000 subscribers to print editions, the balance coming from specialized products, cooking platforms (NYT Cooking) and crosswords (NYT Crossword).

The group's stated objective is to reach 10 million subscribers in 2025, including two million abroad.

The New York Times also announced on Tuesday that it had reached, one year ahead of its business plan, the target of $ 800 million in digital revenues, which corresponds to a doubling in four years ( 2015).

The group will publish its quarterly and annual results on February 6.
