According to the ministry, the ECtHR rejected all the main complaints of the applicants about violations by the Russian authorities of the provisions of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, while noting certain shortcomings that are characteristic of all Council of Europe countries, RIA Novosti reports.

On January 14, the Strasbourg court issued a decision according to which the provisions of the articles of the European Convention on a Fair Trial and the right to respect for private life were violated with respect to Khodorkovsky and Lebedev.

In turn, the ECHR did not reveal any political persecution of the applicants.

In December 2010, the Khamovnichesky court of Moscow sentenced Khodorkovsky and Lebedev to 14 years in prison for allegedly stealing oil and money laundering.

In the first case, in 2004 they received 8 years in prison.
