The official spokesman for the Egyptian armed forces, Colonel Staff of Tamer Al-Rifai, announced today, Tuesday, that a fighter plane had fallen in one of the training areas and the killing of its commander.

The spokesman said in a brief statement on his official page on Facebook, "In the context of the implementation of the training activity of the Air Force today 14/1/2020, a combat plane crashed in one of the training areas, which resulted in the martyrdom of its commander, and the cause of the crash was determined," without further details .

The spokesman did not mention where the training was, but the Egyptian armed forces announced yesterday the implementation of the "capable 2020" exercise, which included the implementation of the Egyptian Air Force a number of combat missions in all strategic directions, and also included the implementation of the western military region with its tasks along the western borders and the Mediterranean coast .

Sources told Al-Jazeera directly that the F-16 plane crashed south of the city of Rafah (North Sinai), without clarifying the reasons for its crash.

The sources reported that large army reinforcements had arrived from Al-Saha Camp in Rafah and Al-Zuhoor Camp in Sheikh Zuweid to retrieve the body of the pilot.

The Egyptian military spokesman announced on the fifth of last December that a fighter had fallen due to a technical failure while carrying out a training flight, indicating that the pilot managed to jump by parachute.
