Pinterest, the app that lets you share photos of your hobbies, has once again become the third social network in the United States in 2019 ahead of Snapchat, and the gap should widen further, according to a ranking established by the study company eMarketer market.

"While Snapchat caters to an essentially young audience, Pinterest has a more universal appeal, which has allowed it to progress significantly in very diverse age groups," said Nazmul Islam, a business analyst in charge forecasts.

Snapchat, with its filters - like the iconic dog filter that transforms the human face into a canine caricature, hanging tongue and flickering ears - had managed to snatch third place at Pinterest in 2018, despite a redesign of the application which had cost him subscribers.

The 2019 rebound to 80.2 million users (users who go to the network at least once a month) was not enough in the face of 82.4 million Pinterest users.

The latter allows to pin ("to pin" in English) on virtual boards photos around areas of interest (cooking recipes, fashion, decoration, travel ...)

Pinterest, at the crossroads of the social network and the search engine, is used by many brands who put photos of their products on it to try to attract customers. Since 2015, it is possible to add a "buy" button to the application.

Facebook, the social network founded by Mark Zuckerberg and Instagram, the application based on the photography bought by Mark Zuckerberg, continue to prance respectively in first and second position, notes eMarketer but without giving an indication of the number of users.

This year, eMarketer estimates that Pinterest will have 86 million subscribers in the United States compared to 83.1 million on Snapchat and notes that this "gap will continue to widen until the end of our forecast period in 2023".

Globally, Pinterest claims 250 million subscribers.

The action of Pinterest, which did not go public until April, jumped more than 9% at 8:00 p.m. GMT.
