Will it go in its direction? Edouard Philippe "thinks", according to him, that the funding conference bringing together the social partners will propose, by April, "an age measure" intended to balance the pension system, he said on Tuesday during the session of questions to the government, in the National Assembly.

Interrogated on the subject by several deputies - Annie Genevard (LR), Philippe Vigier (Liberty and Territories), Sébastien Jumel (PCF) or even Jean-Christophe Lagarde (UDI) -, the Prime Minister, who withdrew his own proposal on Saturday 'establishing a pivotal age at 64, said in particular: "I do not see how, otherwise, we could achieve financial equilibrium in 2027".

Financial balance at all costs

This pivotal age at 64 had crystallized the opposition of the so-called reformist unions (CFDT, UNSA, etc.), who are in favor of the creation of a universal points retirement system. By backing down on this point, the government managed to bring these organizations back to the table of discussions by instructing them, within the framework of the “financing conference”, to formulate their solutions.

"If - and I don't think it will happen - but if (...) she did not propose a return to balance, then I would take my responsibilities and make sure that in 2027, the system would be balanced", a hammered Edouard Philippe this Tuesday afternoon. And to add: "We are attached to financial balance, because it is not a dirty word, because it is security, an element of solidity for our fellow citizens, for our children, for our grandchildren. children who know that they will have a solid, legible, responsible, fairer, and completely universal retirement system. ”

A possible “cocktail of measures”

For this upcoming financing conference, the Matignon tenant also recalled the two limits imposed: "We do not want pensions to fall (...), and because we think it is important for the competitiveness of the French economy, because we are fighting to make the French economy more competitive, we want there to be no increase in the cost of labor ”.

Since there is little room for maneuver, Edouard Philippe evokes, in the end, a possible “cocktail of measures”.
