26 May 2017A 58-year-old from Padua, residing in Terni, was 100% blind to INPS, thus pocketing the relative civil invalidity pension, but at the weekend he was a linesman in amateur football matches. The carabinieri of the city of Terni confirmed it, explaining that "he was seen to correctly signal the escape of the ball from the side line of the field by raising the flag and following the action of the players moving along the side line of the field and at the end of regulation times , he reversed his position on the pitch by moving to the longitudinal part opposite to the one previously held, all without the aid of companions or technical instruments ".

Furthermore, he did not disdain shopping and reading documents. All activities that the carabinieri considered "clearly proper to a fully sighted person and not afflicted, as shown by his certifications, by a visual deficit of 100%".

The man was placed under house arrest in execution of a precautionary custody order issued by the magistrate Simona Tordelli at the request of the prosecutor Marco Stramaglia. The alleged offense is that of aggravated fraud continued in competition against the State. According to what was ascertained in the operation called "At first sight", the man from February 2008 to today, pretending to be absolutely blind, would have obtained in total, and unlawfully, a good 130 thousand euros of invalidity pension.
