Already present in concerts, festivals and events around the world, the famous "Gwenn ha du", black and white flag of Bretons, invaded the Twitter network on Monday with a temporary emoji in the colors of Brittany.

Supported by the association "www.bzh" and supported by the Brittany Region or the cities of Rennes, Brest and Quimper, this communication operation aims to integrate the flag definitively into the list of emojis, these pictograms widely used on social media.

Attached to the hashtag #EmojiBZH, the Breton flag ranked first and third in Twitter France trends for its first day of campaigning, even finding itself briefly in 6th position in the network's global trends with 30,000 tweets and many humorous reactions .

For David Lesvenan, president of the association "www.bzh," it is a "very beautiful day for Brittany which shone on Twitter", welcoming to AFP "the engaging and motivating participation" Web users.

Until February 9, lovers of Brittany are invited to massively share this digital standard in order to "prove (...) that the Breton flag emoji has its place in the 5.4 billion smartphones in the world", details the association ".bzh".

A petition demanding the creation of this emoji had been signed more than 27,000 times, paving the way for a crowdfunding campaign on the Breton site Kengo. Exceeding the 20,000 euros hoped for, the pot made it possible to finance the marketing operation on Twitter, which agreed to implement this emoji for a test period of one month.

In April 2020, a file will be submitted to the Unicode consortium, which oversees the creation of these pictograms, before it reveals in January 2021 if the "Gwenn ha du" joins its official list of emojis.

In addition to national flags, the list of emojis is enriched each year with new standards (LGBT, pirate, European Union, ...). Nearly 5,000 territories wish to see their flag integrate the official selection, like Corsica, which had announced in 2018 to want to adopt an emoji "Corsica" with the head of Moor.
