January 12, 2020 Journalist and writer Giampaolo Pansa has died in Rome. He was 84 years old.

During his career he collaborated with all the major Italian newspapers: from 1969 to 1972 he was sent to the "Stampa", from 1972 to 1973 chief editor of the "Messaggero", from 1973 to 1977 he was a correspondent for the "Corriere della Sera", so he participated the founding of "Repubblica", where he worked from 1977 to 1991, also holding the position of deputy director. In addition, he created columns on the weeklies "Espresso" and "Panorama", of which he was co-editor.

In November last year he had returned to writing in the "Corriere della Sera", editing the column "Return to Solferino".

To the journalistic activity, Pansa also combined that of essayist and writer, with a particular interest in the Resistance. Among his works, "The blood of the defeated" (winner of the 2005 Cimitile Prize), "Unknown 1945", "The Great Lie" and "The defeated do not forget".
