Sultan of Oman, Haitham bin Tariq bin Taimur Al Said, stressed on Saturday his country's principles based on peaceful coexistence, good neighborliness and respect for the sovereignty of states.

Sultan Haitham stressed, in a speech during his inauguration ceremony today, the need to work to distance the Arab region from conflicts and disputes, pointing to pushing the march of Gulf cooperation forward and following the Sultan Qaboos line in foreign policy and building on that.

"We will maintain friendly relations with all countries," he said, pledging that Oman will continue its active role in the United Nations and work to achieve international security.

The Sultan of Oman also affirmed continuing to "support the Arab League and cooperate with our brothers to achieve the goals of the university," noting his country's keenness on "good neighborliness, international cooperation and non-interference in the affairs of others."
