“The Libyan issue was at the center of the discussions. Vladimir Putin informed about the results of negotiations with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on January 8 this year in Istanbul, and called for intensifying efforts aimed at an early ceasefire in Libya and the establishment of a peace process between the parties to the conflict, ”the Kremlin’s press service said.

It is clarified that during the telephone negotiations the parties agreed to continue contacts at various levels.

It is also noted that Putin exchanged views with the emir of Qatar on the situation in Libya, taking into account the Russian-Turkish agreements reached in Istanbul on January 8.

“An opinion was expressed on the need to end hostilities and start the process of peaceful settlement of the conflict,” the press service reports.

Earlier, Putin discussed the situation in Libya with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.

Following a meeting in Istanbul, Russian President and Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on the parties to the conflict in Libya to cease hostilities from January 12 and declare a sustainable ceasefire.
