January 11, 2020 "I hope that Russia and Turkey's call for a truce in Libya will be heard," said Vladimir Putin after his meeting with Angela Merkel. The Russian president stressed that he had updated the German chancellor on the Istanbul negotiations with Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan and assured that he supported the Berlin process to end the war in Libya. "However, all parties must take part in the process," added Putin.

The Russian president calls on the parties to the conflict in Libya to end the fighting from midnight. Putin, who received Chancellor Angela Merkel in Moscow, insisted that further consultations with the parties will take place once the ceasefire has been signed.

"I hope the situation in the Middle East will not result in large-scale military conflicts," Putin said further.

The German Chancellor and the Russian President agree that the Iranian nuclear deal must be preserved by all means.

On the issue of the Ukrainian Boeing shot down in Tehren, Iranian admission is "an important step", said Ankela Merkel, stressing that "a comprehensive investigation" must now be conducted. For Angela Merkel it is "a positive thing that we know who is responsible" for the shooting down of the Ukrainian plane, accidentally hit by an Iranian anti-aircraft missile in what the German Chancellor called "a dramatic event" during the press conference with the President Russian Vladimir Putin in Moscow.

"It is good that we know who is responsible - said the chancellor - and I believe that we must work together with all the nations involved in order to find a solution and have an overall assessment".
