176 people are dead - and words stand against words. Is the Ukrainian aircraft model Boeing 737-800 shot down by a missile or does the crash have other explanations?

On one side stands Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, US President Donald Trump and Britain's Prime Minister Boris Johnson: according to them, the PS572 crashed after being hit by an Iranian missile.

On the other hand, Iran stands, which on the most serious level denies that the aircraft has been shot down.

The video is said to show the entire course of events

During Thursday night, Swedish Time, the New York Times was able to publish a video that is said to show the course of events. In the clip, which SVT News can now publish, you see how something that looks like an airplane is hit by a brilliant object - ten seconds later an explosion is heard.

The New York Times claims to have verified that the video is genuine.

The network detectives Bellingcat - a network of journalists, bloggers, researchers and other network users who together make digging revelations - come to the same conclusion. By using, among other things, data in the clip, satellite images and the site Flightradar, Bellingcat claims that they have been able to verify that the video is genuine.

- We can be very sure of the conclusions we have drawn in our analysis. We are very sure that the video was filmed at that location, that the explosion shown occurred in the plane of the aircraft. But it should be noted that we cannot say for sure or prove that this plane has been shot down. It has to wait until the official investigation, says Nick Waters, an analyst at Bellingcat.

The network detectives' conclusion

In principle, Bellingcat was the first to state that Russia was behind the launch of Malaysian Airlines Flight 17 over Ukraine in 2014 by following digital footprints in social media.

- I think this case is easier. In Ukraine, the MH17 was shot down over a contentious area where both sides appear to have anti-aircraft robots so there was some debate. In Iran, there was the plane where there does not appear to have been the planes or air defenses of others. So if the plane was shot down by a robot, that robot must almost certainly have come from Iranian armed forces.

The next step, according to Nick Waters, is to try to find out if robots were present in the area and if there is evidence of the crash site.
