A primary school student shot and killed a teacher and injured six people, including five children, in Torreon, a town in northern Mexico, on Friday before committing suicide, local officials said.

According to initial information provided by the police, the pupil, aged between 8 and 10, entered the premises of the Cervantes primary school in the city, located in the state of Coahuila, and opened fire before killing himself.

Child suffered from psychological problems

According to the mayor of Torreon, Jorge Zermeno, five children were injured by gunshots, as well as another teacher. They were transferred to a local hospital.

“The boy lived with his grandmother. It is almost certain that he suffered from (psychological) problems, even though he had very good grades, "the mayor told local TV channel Televisa. No motive is for the moment advanced by the authorities.
